Kenner’s Remote Control R2-D2 for $24.99

You know why I never had the remote control R2-D2 toy when I was a kid? Well, this 1979 newspaper advertisement tells us exactly why I never got this toy as a gift. $24.99 in 1979 dollars is the equivalent of $83.77 in today’s dollars! Not to mention that fact that $25 in 1979 would have gotten you about a dozen of the Kenner Star Wars action figures . . . and I’d always rather have twelve of those figures than one battery-powered R2-D2. You gotta keep buying batteries, kids!
