BattleTech: Celebrating Its 10th Anniversary in 1994

This two-page spread from the first issue of the 1994 BattleTech: Fallout comic by Malibu introduces readers to the world of Fasa’s BattleTech which is described as a “smash-hit role-playing board game.” I’d never quite thought of it that way before, but they’re right. BattleTech was more than just a boardgame, and even without the addition of the MechWarrior RPG book, we always played BattleTech more like an RPG than we did a boardgame.

And, to be fair, Car Wars could have been described in that exact same way back in the eighties.
