Review – Diaclone Powered System Set C Type
Takara’s Diaclone Reboot series (find at Amazon.com*) continues to expand, and even though the larger robots are fantastic, I’ve gotta say that the series of Powered System micro-mecha are far too incredible for us to ignore. I reviewed three different packs of these little robot toys earlier this year — A Type review here, B Type review here, and Marine pack review here — and now it is time for the new C Type toy to find its way in front of my camera.
As you can tell, the C Type is mostly identical to the earlier designs. The arms and legs across the various styles are the same, with the only significant difference in the torso sculpt, weapon mix, colors, and coloring of the included pilots. The clear canopy of the C Type is a major difference from the A Type and B Type toys, though I’m not sure if it is so remarkable that I prefer the clear canopy to the sculpted visors of the earlier suits.
The entire Diaclone Reboot series (find at Amazon.com*) has been amazing, but I can safely say that you should skip the C Type if you already have one or two of the similar powered armor toys. This feels a lot like more of the same, and a chance for Takara to reuse some earlier work, so the only ones who I can see needing this particular pack will be collectors who have decided to go after the entire line.
It’s not that there is anything at all wrong with the Diaclone Powered System Set C Type pack, only that we have seen this before and the differences between this and the three earlier sets (four mecha toys total) aren’t dramatic enough to generate much excitement. Sorry, Takara, but I have to let people know my true opinion, especially considering how much these sets cost.
