“Toy executives going back to basics for ’87” from the Hartford Courant Newspaper
February 15, 1987. Staff writer Pamela Klein of the Hartford Courant newspaper brings us this spectacular snapshot of the 1987 New York Toy Fair and the expected hits of the year. Coleco’s Starcom toys get a small mention, but it’s Hasbro’s G.I. Joe — and that awesome photo of the Defiant — as well as Visionaries and Air Raiders that deserve our attention.
“He said the company hopes either Visionaries, figures and accessories using holograms, or Air Raiders, which use compressed air to power vehicles and propel figures through the air, will lead the boys’ toy category in 1987.”
Hint: Both Visionaries and Air Raiders failed at retail. Sorry, Hasbro!
