A Fun Evening with Motorbot
Last night Gina and were scheduled to meet with Motorbot for dinner. Before dinner we wandered downtown Austin and stumbled into No Comply, an Austin skate shop, where we looked at the shirts and sneakers. Ever since reading Art and Sole (I discussed the book several weeks ago) I’ve been looking at sneakers and last night I actually grabbed a new pair; Etnies Taylor sneakers that look great (shown below) and were priced pretty good.
I’ve gotta be careful, though, because the last thing I need is to suddenly find myself with a sneaker collection.
After hitting a couple of shops we then met up with toy artist and customizer Motorbot and went off in search of dinner. We settled on the Galaxy Cafe — which was new for me and Gina — where we had a very tasty meal. I will return. We spent some time chatting about toys, the industry, the customizing scene, and Motorbot even showed us photos of a few secret projects and discussed one secret project that sounds very cool.
After dinner we went over to Domy Books where the conversation continued. And where Gina and I grabbed a copy of Yarn Bombing: The Art of Crochet and Knit Graffiti, a book that’s all about . . . well, it’s exactly what it sounds like.
After Domy we took Motorbot back and dropped him off where he was staying. It was a short evening, but a fun way to spend a few hours.
