A Galaxy Far, Far Away and Carmine Infantino
“Unfortunately, the arrival of Infantino marks a decline in the series’ artistic style, which had, in the issues since the film adaptation, been fairly consistent with the movies.”
― from A Galaxy Far, Far Away: Exploring Star Wars Comics*
I was excited by the idea of A Galaxy Far, Far Away: Exploring Star Wars Comics*, a new book that was released last month, but as I read through the chapter on Marvel’s pre-Empire Star Wars comics I suddenly found myself completely disagreeing with the author. An anti-Infantino attitude? This won’t do at all! After all, everyone knows that if asked: My Favorite Star Wars Artist? then I’ll have to answer with Carmine Infantino! His work, as everyone should already know, was a critical part of keeping Star Wars alive in 1978 and 1978, and even today I love looking through Infantino’s contributions to Star Wars.
I am happy to have bought myself a copy of A Galaxy Far, Far Away: Exploring Star Wars Comics*, but now I feel as if I must spend my remaining days posting about Infantino’s work and making sure everyone in the world knows that Carmine Infantino’s Star Wars artwork is some of the best art the series has ever seen. Period.
