Advanced Dungeons and Dragons for the Intellivision
Flipping through the Marvel Star Wars comic books I ran across this ad in issue #76 (straight out of 1983). Hasbro may own the Dungeons & Dragons brand today, but thirty years ago it was Mattel promoting the game with their Intellivision adaptation. You can learn more about the game at Intellvision Lives, and don’t forget to watch the commercial for even more classic Dungeons & Dragons fun.

Ha! I played the hell out of that game as a wee tyke. It was probably the first videogame I really remember playing. The sound of the snake freaked me out – you heard it long before you saw it.
I never got to play the AD&D game, though I had cousins with an Intellivision set. Closest I came was Crypts of Chaos and a few rounds of Swordquest on the 2600. I recall seeing the exact ad you’re talking about though and pining to play the “real” DnD game.
The commercial is hilariousy–they even got Elliot from E.T. to be in it!
I remember that ad! I always wanted to play it, but I had an Atari (not the Intellivision). I had to placate myself with Crypts of Chaos and a few runs on my cousin’s Swordquest carts.
Love that they got Elliot from E.T. to be the spokeskid!
