Affiliate Link – Mail-Order Mysteries
Subtitled “Real Stuff from Old Comic Book Ads,” Kirk Demarais’ 2011 Mail-Order Mysteries* book is for all of us who used to look at the old comic book ads and dream of ordering strange, unnecessary things. We’ve got this book at home and over the last few years I think I’ve pulled it down twice to flip through and enjoy Demarais’ humorous look at everything from X-Ray Specs to sea monkeys. Highly recommended!
Generations of comic book readers remember the tantalizing promises of vintage novelty advertisements that offered authentic laser-gun plans, x-ray specs, and even 7-foot-tall monsters (with glow-in-the-dark eyes!). But what would you really get if you entrusted your hard-earned $1.69 to the post office?
