Affiliate Link – Star Wars Jumbo Vintage Luke Skywalker
I’m so very angry with myself! Why did I not get into the Gentle Giant Kenner Jumbo action figures before the Star Wars Jumbo Vintage Luke Skywalker* action figure was released? If I want one now he’s gonna cost me a lot; the Amazon listing is for about $170 and eBay listings aren’t really all that different. I’m so dumb!

Roflmao, don’t beat yourself up. Even Mattel made more battlecats. Still, this is one of the issues that keeps me away from the line. I’m not a collector who cares about rarity enough to pay for it. You can’t even call this rarity. Gentle giant can click order so you can click order. When someone shows you a rare item they have to tell you about the rarity. This instance is a lame story.
@Openchallenge – I’m less concerned with the rarity — I’ve opened every single one of these I’ve bought, and I know I “ruined” the value doing that — and still hold out hope that Gentle Giant will reissue some of the molds in new packaging. I’m pretty sure the MOC collectors are the ones driving the value; I haven’t seen too many online mentions of people opening these.
Hell, I’d even pay for bagged versions like were shipped from catalog sources back in the seventies. No packaging!
They’ll get reissued. Gentle giant just seems to be focused on filling 800 people’s houses entirely with unopened jumbo kenners. After that I’m sure we’ll all get a Luke and Darth Vader. Aftermarket doesn’t pay gentle giant’s bills. They had a great idea, they just aren’t reaching everybody.
@Openchallenge – And Jawa!!!!
I have 2 and even though I don’t consider myself a MOC collector I have not opened either one of them. The Blue Snaggletooth I have is still carded because I had limited shelf space and could hang that sucker up on a peg if he stayed carded. The Boba Fett that I got last week was intended to be opened at first site but that whole thing is just like a work of art to me, package included and I haven’t been able to bring myself to do it.
@T-Rav – Chewbacca just reached me yesterday and I immediately opened him. The packaging does look awesome, but seeing the group of them on the shelf makes it totally worth opening the toys.
I bet it does make it worth it and I’m sure as I slowly get more of these that I will have to open them just to see for myself how great they must look standing all together.
@T-Rav – I’ll get a group shot this weekend as the new shelves come together. The Cantina aliens are in one spot, a few figures are at the office, but I am getting several into one single place and they look great.
I’ve been opening all of mine for display in my office. What’s really cool about the packaging is that is resealable and nothing gets damaged taking the figure out.
