I recently ran across Toys and American Culture: An Encyclopedia* and immediately added the book to my Amazon wish list. At $85 it’s a bit of a pricey buy, but the book’s listed as over 400-pages and glancing inside the contents makes me think this would be a great reference work to own.
The next time I get paid I think I’ll grab this for my library.

In addition to discussing the history of America’s most influential toys, the book contains specific entries on the individuals, organizations, companies, and publications that gave shape to America’s culture of play from 1900 to 2000.
