The classic 1985 Transformers Insecticons (not the Deluxe Insecticons, but just the basic three) have always been some of my favorite Transformers of the eighties. It has reached the point that I’ve got a shelf dedicated to Insecticons, including both toys and statues, and I’ve even gone so far as to buy each of the unofficial Insecticons that have been released so far. Hey, we all need a hobby, right?
Well, in addition to the original 1985 Insecticons there’s also the Platinum Insecticons set*, a box of the three toys that Hasbro reissued in the last few years. This isn’t the first reissue set, but it is the set that is still relatively easy to find and inexpensive. And that makes it a smart snag if you don’t have the Insecticons in your collection. I won’t bother with the “why don’t you have these toys?” line of questioning, but instead just focus on showing you that there’s still a chance to correct this significant flaw in your toy collection.

I picked up the 25th Anniversary collection a few years back. Is there a difference between the two? Different look or paint styles?

I’ve got the originals and a couple of the re-releases (including the Diaclone-colored set). Also my favorite G1 Transformers. I’ve drooled over some of the third party stuff but haven’t been able to plunk down the cash for them.
