“An Appetite At Quaker Oats”
Magazine timing can be a very strange thing. A September 4, 1987 L.A. Times article clearly states that “Kenner Accepts Tonka Offer,” which makes this September 14, 1987 New York Magazine article just a tad out-of-date the instant it hit newsstands.
Now I most certainly wish that magazines were performing better today (see “Why don’t we buy magazines?”), but I’ll be the first to admit that magazines today need to not try and be news sources. For up-to-the-minute and the latest news nothing beats the speed of the internet. No, today’s magazines need to concentrate on features and interviews; original content that cannot be found on dozens to hundreds of websites and blogs.
This particular New York Magazine article is a throwback to an older era of magazine publishing that just no longer works today.
