“Are Friends Electric” in Almost Human

Gina and I watched the second episode of Almost Human* last night and there was one flash of information that caught my eye and nagged at my skull. As IMDB puts it:

The name of the “Albanian” Synthetic Escort Company is “Are Friends Electric”- a reference to Numan, Gary.

Yep, that’s it. I knew that name “Are Friends Electric” was the name of a song as soon as I spotted it, but it took a quick internet search to locate the specifics. “Are Friends Electric” was first released in 1979, and it’s a fun track that has a bizarre, haunting quality to it.

BUT I knew that wasn’t the end of it. I was certain I had heard (and owned!) a cover of “Are Friends Electric,” and a few more moments of bashing at my brain and Google searches soon pointed to the 1997 Information Society album, Don’t Be Afraid*, as the source of that memory in my skull. The Information Society cover punches things up a bit and is my preferred version of the song.

Enjoy!

  1. While it had it’s issues, my wife and I loved Almost Human. Great cast even though the writing needed work. I was truly disappointed when it didn’t get renewed. Also, we used to play a game called “Spot Karl Urban’s Cranky Face” which was about every 42 seconds!

    1. @Jay – Three episodes in and I’m enjoying it. Looks like it wasn’t an inexpensive show to create. Why spend cash on this when you can probably get two reality shows for the same amount of money?
