Ashley Wood’s Bertie the Pipebomb Pre-Orders
This is kinda surprising. Bigshot Toyworks is offering Bertie from the run they did way back in the early history of the World War Robot* toy line. Priced at $250 each, they currently have two toys up for pre-orders with promised delivery this month. (Technically, it says shipping and not delivery.)
Years in the making and long sold out, Bigshot Toyworks’ Bertie the Pipebomb, designed by renowned artist Ashley Wood is available again in limited quantities. Bertie features over 46 points of articulation with posabililty down to the tips of his fingers, capable of holding any accessory in hand.
This is old stock from the only production run of these figures, and possibly your last chance to own the figure that launched 3A Toys. Quantities are extremely limited.
I don’t have $250 to drop on one of these, but if I did I would order right now. I’m very curious to see how this guy compares to the current bots. Does anyone have this toy? Any thoughts or opinions?
I have one. Although packaging and overall quality of the Bertie is fantastic, you can see that this was an earlier attempt at 3A goodness, when compared to more recent releases. Joints can be loosey-goosey, the faux-leather finish on the launcher strap crumbles, the missle for the launcher does not stay IN the launcher (had to glue mine), and the biggest deal is those tiny little legs need the support of a metal rod up the berties Bum to help him stand up. Love my Desert Rat Bertie, but the newer product 3A produces is superior in every way. My EMGY Drop Cloth for instance, is without any flaw. Side note; if you cut some clear plastic to fit the eye hole(s)of your 3A Bot from an action figure blister for instance, it looks great! You end up with what appears to be a glass lens.
@zach – Thanks for the info on the figure. Sounds like I should be happy I don’t have the money to drop on one of these.
