Austin Stops Trying to Stay Current with Marvel Universe Action Figures
I don’t know of any other way to put it. Other than a hell of a lot of Luke Cage action figures and one Extremis Iron Man (which I grabbed), you can forget seeing any new Marvel Universe action figures in the Austin area. Which just makes this Marvel Universe Juggernaut review at Articulated Discussion even tougher to swallow. Damn, why is Austin so far behind on this line?
Marvel Universe Juggernaut Review by a Jealous Toy Collector
Some people out there will try to tell you that Juggernaut is an excellent action figure, but I know for a fact it’s their way of trying to trick us into buying a horrible hunk of plastic. You see, the review at Articulated Discussion is little more than someone’s attempt at making me waste money on a toy that is less fun than anything we’ve seen in the line.
- Sculpt – Terrible. Don’t believe me? Well just look at that cropped photo, above. You would think the sculptors could do a better job with a tiny head than they did with Juggernaut here. I mean look at that, why would they sculpt each tooth when they could have just sculpted the mouth closed? And don’t even get me started on the toy’s bulky shape. Why would a character like Juggernaut be sculpted so thick?
- Paint – Those colors are the worst I’ve ever seen! And that helmet with the weather-beaten paint app is just someone’s poor excuse for not spending money on good paint. I mean look at that, they couldn’t even completely cover the helmet in a smooth, even color. Amateurs!
- Articulation – The review at Articulated Discussion sure spends a lot of time trying to tell us how great the toy’s articulation is, but I’m not fooled by all the words and pictures. After all, do we really need a lot of articulation if it leads to the toy’s head falling off? The photo showing the head articulation is meant to impress us, but all I wanna know is how can we be impressed with a toy that loses its head? Cheap work!
Yet again the internet should be ignored. If you see this toy ANYWHERE in the Austin area please contact me immediately so that I can buy it and yank it out of circulation. After all, it wouldn’t do for some unsuspecting soul to end up with such a piece of junk in their collection. I’ll bite the bullet and take one for the Austin action figure collectors by willingly buying the first Juggernaut that appears in town. You guys can thank me later.
Imagine you got the same blog, but living in Germany! you don’t see any of these guys over here – just the same Jakks WWE figures over and over (okay, the 4inch spiderman pop up here *meh* and i got a Iron Man first comic version) but here is nothing up to date and might never be! Consuming here is pretty lame…or is it luck? haha.
Besides the Philippines, I don’t really think anyone in the States has gotten a Juggernaut (or his wave-mates) off a retail peg. They’ve all been from online retailers and some comic stores. Definitely MU has been pushed back a little by retailers, maybe because of IM2, but I don’t think its Austin alone. May be it just me being optimistic.
@Prem1x – Wave 7 of Marvel Universe has hit Austin a few times now, but I’ve yet to see the figures I really want. IM2 is in a few Wal-Marts now, but I just can’t seem to find a Hulkbuster. I’m assuming these will all be easier to find as the summer goes on.
@Ralph – We’ll have to find a way to get a couple of figures over to you.
From talk on forums, Hulkbuster seems to be hitting Walmarts now and also I hear its worth checking CVS. I haven’t seen IM2 at Walgreens though.
Wave 9 is on eBay now so it might be at HTS soon. What I really need at the Vision and Havok variants!!
While I’m on vacation over the next week I’ll check other Wal-Marts. Maybe I’ll get lucky and find a Hulkbuster while I’m on the road.
Prem1x is right. Living in the Philippines, I did see a bunch of Juggernauts in toy stores here but nobody seemed to want them. As you might guess, Wolverine, Iron Man, and Spider-Man are more popular with regular (meaning non-collector) Filipino toy buyers (especially kids). I did spot Blade a couple of times but now he’s nowhere to be found.
