Back Into the Hong Kong Toy Shops

Meetings are over so I’m headed back out into the busy streets of Hong Kong to explore the toy shops, restaurants, and insanity that is this awesome city.

Click to visit Flickr.

While I’m out exploring, does anyone have any requests for types of toys that I should take photos of? I’ll have the camera and can try to snap pics of specific types of toys so if you wanna see something just let me know.

  1. I reckon’ this isn’t normally your cup of tea, but how about trying out some Japanese stuff while you’re there? See if you can take some pics, or maybe even purchase stuff like Kamen Rider (S.H. Figuarts), Busou Shinki or Figma while you’re there. Or if you’re feeling adventurous, stuff like Soul of Chogokin.

It’d be a bit different than stuff you’d normally be able to get from the states anyway (you wouldn’t need to go all the way to HK for Star Wars yes?), and who knows, you might find merit in this stuff.

  2. Regarding toys I would like to see..
..hmmmm… I would like to see..
toys that we find here in North America,
but are different because they’re being
marketed to customers in Honk Kong.
I’m a fan of kaiju toys, unusual die cast
cars, bootleg toys (please see if you
can find any and take photos for sure),
    super-deformed characters, skeleton
toys, eyeball toys, obnoxiously cute toys,
Hello Kitty toys where she is out of
character (such as a pirate Hello Kitty),
and designer vinyl art toys. I’ll think
of some more, but it will probably be
after you’ve left Honk Kong. D’oh!
Don’t feel obligated to look for any
of these. I’m just throwing these out
if you find yourself with tons of extra
time. The important thing is for you
to have a blast over there. And have
fun filling up your suitcases with toys.

  3. I just realized that I asked you to
be sure to take photos of any
bootleg toys and then I told you
to not feel obligated to look for
any of my suggestions. Sorry about
    the mixed messages. Double-D’oh!!

Feel free to forget my suggestions
and load those suitcases to the limit!

  4. @updatedude – I’ve definitely grabbed a lot of stuff I would have never bought at home. Mainly because it either isn’t available at home or it’s horribly expensive at home. I’ve got awesome toys for reviews once I get home.
