BattleTech in the Fall 1986 Fasa Catalog
A recent find, the fall 1986 Fasa catalog is packed with BattleTech illustrations and product information, giving us a peek at the game in the very early years after the transition from the BattleDroids name. The catalog is 16-pages in total, five of which (including the cover) are devoted to BattleTech. Let’s take a peek!
The first two pages (below) showcase the basic game, the BattleForce expansion (which I never owned), the very first Technical Readout (which was a must in the late eighties; incredible mech art inside!), and the two at-the-time available BattleTech novels. Other than BattleForce, I was maybe a little too familiar with everything else on this spread back when I was fifteen and sixteen.
The second two pages (below) are a bit of a broader product selection. AeroTech and CityTech were also must-own titles back when we were playing the game as kids, but everything else shown here was either less useful than expected (I’m looking at you, MechWarrior roleplaying game!) or just not products I or my friends owned. All these years later and I still haven’t read The Fox’s Teeth and Tales of the Black Widow. Well, I know exactly what to seek out now!
These catalog pages sure take me back to my youth and all of this BattleTech memorabilia is giving me ideas for when I get home from Essen. Just maybe, if all goes well, I can transform some of those ideas into reality and bring something entertaining to the world.
