Bernard Loomis Comments on Coleco’s “Rambo” Action Figures
August 2, 1985. A New York Times article I found in the Washington, PA Observer-Reporter newspaper shares Coleco’s plans to bring Rambo to toy shelves. The line ultimately didn’t meet Coleco’s expectations, and from what we find in this article it sounds as if Coleco should have asked legendary toymaker Bernie Loomis for his thoughts on the line.
“I think Rambo will come and go rather quickly,” said Loomis. “But maybe they’ve done some homework and the kids are more into Rambo than I’m aware.”
Nope. The line ran from 1985 to 1986 and never really did grab an audience. Score another one for Loomis!

Seriously – who thought it was a good idea? “You know what kid’s love? Those characters from movies they aren’t allowed to see!”
