Big on Christmas lists in 1985
Marilyn Hackett, staff writer for the Lewiston Journal of Lewiston-Auburn, Maine, assembled this article about toys for the December, 11, 1985 edition of the newspaper. The article itself is a blast, but it’s the photo by Jay Reiter that first caught my eye. Look at all of those Transformers toys! The photo scan is pretty bad, but aren’t those Jumpstarters covering the top of the shelf?
And way, way up high we see the Mantech Battlestation II toy. What’s Mantech you ask? Well, see this page at zeroidz.com and have a great time.
Returning to the photo I also see Dinobots, Constructicons, and something big along the bottom shelf that I can’t identify. Can anyone figure out exactly which Transformers toy that is on the bottom shelf?
“Big on the Christmas lists of youngsters this year, for instance, are gobots, robots that can be changed into other shapes like jets or laser guns.”
Thank you, Google, for all of the work you’ve put into these newspaper archives!
