Blackthorne’s “How to Draw Robotech” Advertised in a BattleTech Comic?

I’m now officially confused. Check this pcgamesn.com article for an overview of the confusing situation behind the BattleTech mech designs and then take a peek at this 1987 Robotech ad. How is it that it took Harmony Gold until 1992 to take action when the Blackthorne Publishing comics company was publishing both Robotech and BattleTech comics at the same time. Did Harmony Gold not closely follow the work of their licensee?
