Blogging Rewards: Awesome Readers

A few days ago I wrote about frustrations I was having with blogging (post here). Well, that post was a good way to get those feelings out of the way and a great way to be reminded of why I have so much fun with battlegrip.com: All of you who read the site every day and let me know how much you enjoy it make this worth doing.

As much fun as I have writing about toys and snapping photos, it really is the comments, e-mails, and phone calls from everyone who reads the site that has me trying to take time every day to post new content here at the site. And as much as I sometimes worry about focusing on one line or another at different times it seems that all of you are right there encouraging me to keep going; it’s almost as if most of you reading the site have random toy and art tastes that follow my own.

I considered mentioning a few specific readers and thanking them here for their contributions to the site, but as I started to create a list of names I realized that no matter how hard I tried I would miss some very deserving readers who go out of their way to interact with all of us here at the site.

So instead of doing that I decided to stick with this general “Thank You” post. All of you — hell, even those of you who silently read the site and every now and then mail me or send me a tweet (follow me on Twitter) — keep me excited about the site.

And those toy bloggers who use their own sites to direct people over here to battlegrip.com are included in this thanks. I appreciate you guys using your blogs to show off some of the stuff that I do here at battlegrip.com and if I’ve never personally thanked you then please consider this post thanks. It’s not nearly enough, but it’s what I have time for at the moment.

But there may be something bigger in the public thanks department coming soon . . . just as soon as I finish working out an idea that’s eating away at the back of my mind.

  1. I don’t comment often, but I read your blog every day. Thanks for keeping it up to date and for all your hard work 🙂

  2. “It’s almost as if most of you reading the site have random toy and art tastes that follow my own.” That’s pretty much why I read your site, I think I stumbled upon it from Collection DX and read a couple Gylos reviews then started reading EVERYTHING. I can pretty much always count on there being something new and interesting to read when I come here. Sometimes your reviews even sell me on something I’ve been debating on purchasing, or steer me clear of something not worth purchasing.

Also, unrelated, but I’m a bit of an artist myself. Not anywhere on par with half the guys who post here and have their own sites, but if you search Deviant Art for LincolnshirePoacher, well that’s my stuff. I’d like to try to adapt some of my stuff into mini statues or eventually resin and vinyl toys and any feedback any of you custom toy dudes had would be appreciated!

  3. I have to admit I have only been reading for a couple of months but your blog has inspired me to start bl9ogging again, and creating! this is something that is important for me and the communities that I have found on this and other similar blogs have really helped me understand why this kind of thing is truly important. Not only are you helping people find toys that they might like, and telling them why they are good or bad or just your opinion, but you are really informing the community and helping in community building by bringing like minded people together.

that is what I love to see and do. So thank you for what you do on this blog!

  4. Honestly dude you are one of very few blogs that covers all sides of the industry, most have their niches but you cover indie,corporate,knockoff,bootleg,designer,art,foreign,etc..
Not to mention you don’t just regurgitate the same info as every other designer toy blog, you don’t always have to wait for e-mails on new stuff somehow you seem to always be on the hunt for new stuff.
So yeah Battlegrip is my morning reading during coffee and wake-up time and checked 2 or 3 more times daily.

  5. I like how you cover a bit of the tabletop gaming industry in addition to toys. Combines some of my favorite hobbies in one place.

  6. I’ve been with you since Vs. Monsters, Phil, and it’s serendiptous that you turned out to be a toy fan. I read Battlegrip daily and because of this site, about half the other toy review sites on your link list. Thanks for putting in the time and effort!

  7. Thanks, everyone! I want to post some responses to specific comments but there’s no wi-fi in my hotel room so I’m doing everything by phone. But I will find a wi-fi spot before I get home so that I can get some real updates and responses posted.

  8. Congratulations to you on an amzing site. I think I first linked over here from Corey Tincher’s ArticulatedDiscussion. I love the feel of laid-back blogs who like to talk about toys and geeky stuff. Thanks for all the fun reading, Mr. Reed.

  9. I love your site Phil, I used to stop here somewhat irregularly. When you started your Glyos Week of posts however, that was when I started stopping by daily. I also like your “retro reviews” (Ex: the Air Raiders review), seeing those old toys reviewed in a brand-new way is very nostalgic and just fun to me. Here’s to more cool stuff from you in the future & I’m curious to see what is gnawing at the inside of your head.

  10. I accept this award and would like to thank the academy… Err… Yeah, I appreciate what ya do here fella and you’ve always had a willingness to pay it forward that I can appreciate and value.

  11. @Jason S – Thanks! I’ll have to throw a quick post about vs. Monsters up here so that everyone knows what you’re talking about. One of these days I’ll complete vs. Pirates.
