Boardgame Experimentation that Requires More Experimentation
With Each Sold Separately and Action Figures Not Included shipped off to project supporters it is time to settle on my next project. There will be another third party Transformers book, but I need to sit down and work out another batch of interviews and make some hard decisions on page count before that can move forward.
One idea that came up during the Action Figures Not Included project on Kickstarter was to create a book about eighties boardgames. Taking that idea and running with it just a little I shot test pics and assembled a few test pages; take a peek at this double-page spread featuring Thunder Road for a sneak at my first step at a book about boardgames. This in no way is final, but this is the direction I’ve been playing with.
Oh. And this will not be my next project . . .

The board games book is a really great idea. You could touch on those ’80s wonders like Thunder Road but also more famous board games like Clue that have changed over time but might have had a distinct look in the ’80s that kids from back then would remember. Also, would Flipsiders qualify? In any case, this book would be a great nostalgia trip that might even have more crossover appeal than a book about one specific property like Transformers.
@Kevin – Flipsiders and Triple-Flips in the book would be great. I will try and track down at least one of each if I decide to proceed with this idea.
My thinking had been to hit 30 games and pull one interesting mechanic from each for discussion.
