“Capture All the Power in the Universe”

Even though this ad for Mattel’s Masters of the Universe is dated 1982, I found it in a 1983 issue of Muppet Magazine. Specifically, I found the ad in the very first issue of the magazine, which instantly tells me that Mattel was a major sponsor of the magazine and saw the value in advertising directly to kids. I doubt that we can trace the success of Masters of the Universe in the eighties directly to this advertisement, but I am sure ads like this played a role in spreading awareness of the toys before the cartoon hit the airwaves.
