Centurions: “More licensed characters head for video.”

After that Centurions comic ad that I posted a few days ago it only feels fitting to find some other info on the old Kenner line. Google’s magazine archives step into the picture now with the June 14, 1986, Billboard issue in which we learn that the Centurions are headed to home video. The magazine tells us:

“The Centurions were introduced by Kenner at the 1986 Toy Fair and are being supported by the toy company with a $7 million network TV ad budget. Other companies that will produce Centurions-related product include Coleco, Viewmaster, and Hanes Knitwear.”

Damn, that’s a fantastic bit of old action figure marketing at work. Completely new series and Kenner already had licensees onboard to support the line? That’s some great salesmanship and coordination at work; not too shocking from the company that helped make Strawberry Shortcake the event it was back in the eighties.
