“Choose from 8 different 5″ action figures for boys and girls.”
December 19, 1982. If you jump all of the way to p. 143 in this issue of the Pittsburgh Press in the Google newspaper archives then you’ll find a fabulous Masters of the Universe ad where the toys are promoted as fun for girls and boys alike. Right there is what I love about these old newspaper ads: Evidence that toymakers have tried in the past to produce toys for both girls and boys. Things don’t always go great, but at least we have evidence that they want money from kids regardless of gender.
