“Choose Your Own Adventure” Books in Starlog Magazine
If you were a kid in the eighties then you had no choice but to read the Choose Your Own Adventure books*, right? I know I spent hour after hour reading through the series back in the early eighties, even going so far as writing school book reports about some of the titles. (Our teacher insisted that we had to read through multiple times, making different choices each time, if our book report was going to be on one of these solitaire gamebooks.) I loved these books!
Well, if you check the February 1982 issue of Starlog magazine you can transport yourself back to the time when these books were new. I love how the reviewer — and yeah, this is kinda a review of sorts — even admits that the books are fun regardless of age. Finding this makes me want to dig out some of the old books and try them again. Maybe on the next trip I’ll drag one of these along with me.

These were so great — I pumped hours upon hours into them as a kid.
A few years ago I went back and re-read quite a lot of them. They were still fun, but I think the gamebooks like Fighting Fantasy, Fabled Lands etc have aged a bit better.
