Coca-Cola and Max Headroom in 1986
Today, Coca-Cola is a major brand worth billions of dollars. The company is a global entity that’s known worldwide, but there was a time in the eighties when Coke was struggling against Pepsi and in danger of losing its way. A new formula didn’t help, but as this 1986 newspaper article tells us, Coca-Cola was willing to try lots of new things to capture attention and dollars.
My favorite part of the article has to be the appearance of Max Headroom* as “‘spokescomputer’ robot” for the brand. This pre-dates the television show, but it doesn’t mean the article’s not a fun read. Thanks, Google, for having these newspaper archives!
