“Cyberpunk is a delinquency”
The November 9, 1994 issue of The Rockmart Journal newspaper shares with us a brief definition of cyberpunk . . . and directs me at a novel I’ve never read. The Shockwave Rider*, written by John Brunner, was initially published in 1975 and is, according to the Wikipedia entry, “considered by some critics to be an early ancestor of the “cyberpunk” genre.” I guess there’s a book I need to read!
The term “cyberpunk” relates to the idea of futuristic delinquency, such as the computer users who crack the codes of computer systems. The term stems from science-fiction novels such as “Neuromancer” and “Shockwave Rider.”
