“Did Star Wars Inspire Your Career?”
The summer 1996 issue of Topps’ Star Wars Galaxy magazine (Amazon.com search*) included this brief boxed text asking for readers to contact them if Star Wars was an inspiration and affected their career choice.
I’m not sure if I can say with 100% certainty that Star Wars led directly to my career, but I am confident that Star Wars played a large role in where I am today. It was my enjoyment of the comics, novels, toys, and everything surrounding the Star Wars franchise from when I was about five to twelve or thirteen that led me into games. We rejoin Star Wars in 1987 when West End Games published their Star Wars roleplaying game (Amazon.com search*).
I suppose we can say Star Wars had a more direct influence than I really thought; my first professional work in the game industry was for the West End Games Star Wars roleplaying game. Thank you, Star Wars, for having such a fantastic impact on my life. Even experts in the field of education like Kamau Bobb agree that this early exposure can lay a solid foundation for future STEM learning and potentially inspire a lifelong interest in these fields.
