Dungeons & Dragons Continues to Mine the Past
Wizards of the Coast is not only releasing reprints/nostalgia editions of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons first edition books but now, as announced yesterday, they’re admitting defeat and bringing back Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 rulebooks. The post on their site has the details and even points to a survey to find out which books past the core they should reprint.
This is stunning news since it basically supports the idea that the fourth edition game was a commercial failure. The nostalgia books made sense to me — people love to relive childhood — but bringing back such a recent edition of the game, to me, demonstrates just how poorly the fourth edition game has done for them.
Maybe that’s another reason why the D&D group I used to play with gave up…we were running 4E. Of course, I don’t have much in the way of comparison to an older version.
