Erick Scarecrow’s Soopa Maria Lanna
Erick Scarecrow (blog, Twitter) is releasing Soopa Maria Lanna today at 11 pacific (that’s 1 pm central). Looks like another excellent resin toy from Erick, and again it’s a pretty limited run.
“Erick Scarecrow’s Soopa Maria Lanna will finally be up for grabs at the ESC Ebay shop on Monday 12/28/09 at 11am PST. The Edition size will be 40pcs. for this colorway and each handpainted figure is signed and numbered by the artist. Comes in the Scarecrow box with handles.”
fun is that i talked to Erick (or at least the guy who claimed to be the designer of the toys) at the booth at NYCC and he was telling me he never sculpted none of his toys hisself. i bet he got just apretty good team of sculptors behind him and he stalks arround in designer toy world getting all sweet compliments and smoochie smooch … wait!?! that sounds a little pissed, or? haha. but yeah. i don´t dig that “erick scarecrow” thing.
@ralph – I’m slowly discovering that most “artist” toys are not sculpted or designed by the artist. Not all of them, but a substantial number are known artists lending their name and a sketch or two to a project.
Sculpting in China is cheap, so anyone with the cash and (at the very least) a description of a design can have a toy manufactured from sculpt to final package. I don’t know if Erick does this or not, but I wouldn’t be surprised to hear he doesn’t sculpt his own toys.
