“Explosive Growth Began With Children’s Videos”

All of us are aware of the success and popularity of cartoons in the eighties, especially those animated programs that were based on toylines, and the FHE — Family Home Entertainment — logo is one that any G.I. Joe or Transformers fan of the eighties likely recognizes. FHE has a long and complicated history (see Wikipedia), but this 1985 Billboard magazine story comes from early in the company’s life and just as VHS sales were taking off.

If you ever remember seeing the Care Bears, Transformers, or other characters “live and in person” back in the eighties then it is possible that FHE was behind the experience. The story, which is packed with fun info for anyone interested in the history of these lines, tell us that:

“An estimated 30 promotions a month, often featuring appearances by costumed versions of the line’s characters, were staged by FHE at retail outlets and company executives studied the children’s entertainment business closely.”

An incredible discovery, yes, and you totally need to take the time to read through the article.
