Extended Trailer for Gotham
Fox has a new series starting this fall, and as long as they treat it with the level of respect demonstrated in this trailer than the Batman origin rewrite might just be a lot of fun to watch. I’m a little concerned about the idea of showing so many villains as kids — just how many origin stories do they plan to tell with this new series? — but at this point I’ll step into the series hoping for the best.
Drama first, please. Well-written and acted drama. Make this an awesome crime/cop show. Let the superheroics be a secondary concern, please.
Fingers crossed here that the creators on the show all read Gotham Central (Amazon.com search*) many times before sitting down to work on this new show.

On the flip side of that, I’m concerned about the growing number of villians that are older than Bruce, namely Catwoman and possibly Poison Ivy (though it’s hard to tell how old the actress is from the trailer).
Seems like Bats would end up being Junior Varsity to most of his Rogues Gallery!
Overall though, I think I agree with you–they shouldn’t try to explain all of the origins in the Bat-mythos.
Seeing the cinematic quality of this trailer, I just can’t help wishing we actually had a weekly, live-action BATMAN show that looked like this.
Not a fan of the idea that everything is connected before Batman even shows up. I’ll probably check it out, but I think the temptation to do more Batman-related stuff and not enough Gordon is going to drag the show down.
