Fansproject Unofficial Transformers Insecticon Quick Pics
I’m nowhere near ready to write a review of these unofficial Transformers Insecticon toys from Fansproject, but it’s far past the time that I post some photos of the toys for everyone to see. So this morning I snapped some quick pics and started a Flickr set for these Insecticons. Click through and take a look at the three unofficial toys that look absolutely incredible in robot mode.
These three toys, priced at about $50/each, feel and look great in their robot modes but the insect modes need some work. It’s not that they don’t look cool as insects. No, the problem is that the transformation is so damned fiddly and picky that unless you align every damned piece exactly you can forget transforming these toys.
They really do look great, but a lot of the reason I haven’t posted reviews yet is that it’s so frustrating to transform them to insect mode. How frustrating is it? Well, I’ve seen more than one video review of these toys where the reviewer has problems with the transformation process.
The robots themselves are so cool, though, that I’m kinda hoping that Fansproject releases these exact same molds in the Insecticon clone army colors (mentioned here). Why? Because I would absolutely buy a set in those colors. As much as I hate the transformation of the toys I really do love how the robots look. How sad does that make me?
Where Can You Buy Them?
These toys are still pretty new and are available now at Big Bad Toy Store and you should also search robotkingdom.com and TFSource for the toys. They’re kinda expensive for small Transformers toys, but if these are like earlier Fansproject releases the prices are only gonna go up once they’re no longer available.
Who Should Buy These?
Anyone who loves Insecticons, has $150+ to spend on three small toys, and won’t get too frustrated when attempting to transform these toys to insect mode. If you’re at all bothered by Transformers toys that aren’t easily transformed then run from these three because they really are annoying to transform.
But if you have the cash and want some awesome Insecticons to display in your collection — in robot mode only! — then go for it. The plastic feels good, the joints are nice, and the look is fantastic. See the Flickr set and this earlier post for a closer look at the toys.
