Five Out of Nine Star Wars Black Leia Figures Can’t be Wrong!

The saga of Star Wars Black action figures (Amazon.com search*) lives on! Thank you to Matt Doughty (Onell Design) for this shot from a Massachusetts showing that the Princess Leia action figure continues to ride the pegs.

Don't you hate it when the shelves prove the big manufacturers right? "Female action figures don't sell" was the cry . . . and the pegs clearly do not lie.

Between the near-common sight of Leia/Greedo pegs, and the Hasbro sales numbers: “Hasbro 4Q Earnings Slump on Weak Holiday Sales”, “A 19% jump in sales of girls’ products was more than offset by a 16% decline in the boys’ category.”, it is looking like something needs to happen over at Hasbro. Case packs that reflect the demands of “adult collectors” — who thought one Fett for every Leia was a good idea? — would help if Hasbro seriously intends the Black series to be for collectors.

New York Toy Fair is coming on fast. Will Hasbro address the state of their boys’ toys sales, or will they sweep the issue under the rug with the only evidence of change being in what they present at the show? We’ll know very soon.

  1. I don’t know, if there had been a white-dress-and-hair-buns Leia with a blaster, I might have picked that up. Definitely if there had been Hoth Leia.

So, female figures sell…as long as they have guns.
