G.I. Joe Extreme in Kenner’s 1995 Catalog

“A terrifying threat no existing force has been able to halt is wreaking havoc throughout the world. The evil forces of SKAR — Soldiers of Kaos, Anarchy & Ruin — can only be crushed by extreme measures: new G.I. JOE: EXTREME, an elite strike force the likes of which have never been seen! Hand-picked for their all-out attitudes, toughness and superior battle skills, their unending mission is to protect humanity from the forces of SKAR.”

I’ve written a few words about Kenner’s G.I. Joe: Extreme series before (posted here), and now that the line is over twenty years old I find that I admire the ninetiesness of it all. (And yeah, I know my computer is flagging “ninetiesness” as not a word, but don’t we all agree that it should be a word?)

G.I. Joe: Extreme went in for the ridiculously over-muscled action figure sculpts of the nineties, and these Image Comics-ready toys are so fantastically terrible that I am somehow oddly attracted to the line. Click on the above image and get a better look at G.I. Joe: Extreme in the 1995 Kenner pack-in catalog and tell me that you don’t find some joy in these toy designs. And just look at those remarkable vehicle designs! That Tigerhawk looks fun as hell!
