G.I. Joe P.A.C./R.A.T.S., Vamp II, and Flashlight 1985 Newspaper Advertisement
In Matt Forbeck’s short story in G.I. Joe: Tales From The Cobra Wars* (review here) we almost get a modern take on the P.A.C./R.A.T.S. of the eighties. Not quite, but close enough that the inspiration is clear.
If you want a peek at actual P.A.C./R.A.T.S., though, I suggest 1985 Fred Meyer newspaper ad. Not only are the P.A.C./R.A.T.S. on sale — just $1.77/each! — we also get a look at the Vamp II vehicle and a licensed G.I. Joe flashlight. Yes, a flashlight. Hasbro certainly made plenty of cash off of G.I. Joe in the eighties that it’s sad we don’t see the same success for the brand in today’s market.
