G.I. Joe: Renegades’ Destro

I’ve yet to see a single episode of G.I. Joe: Renegades — I’m waiting for a DVD release — but the image of Destro in the series is just far too much fun to not take a moment and point it out. I love the Frankenstein-like look of Destro . . . it’s kinda like they looked at G.I. Joe: Resolute* and decided to keep the massive, hulking basic shape and add in a more mechanical head.

And it’s not that I don’t want to watch the series. It’s just that it’s not appearing on my TV and I don’t even want to bother trying to watch the episodes online. I’ll wait for DVD, because teasers like the one below make me think that this should be enough fun that I’ll want to watch the entire series.

  1. That’s too bad, it’s pretty good. I’m not a huge fan of the character designs, but the stories are fairly solid and the animation is well done. I recently switched from Time Warner cable to Directv, and I made sure they had the Hub channel because I wanted to be able to keep DVRing the show.

  2. It’s a pretty good show, although I know a lot of ”purists” don’t like the new take on it. I think it’s cool though and I like the approach.

  3. @Iok – Yeah, I had heard some grumbling from people but I think that what I see is enough for me to want to watch the series.

Hopefully the whole “hiatus” thing won’t turn into “dead.”

  4. The thing I think a lot are upset about is the ”name-dropping/nods” the show does. What will often happen is a character will help the Joes and – at the end of the episode – they’ll call him by a nickname or make a joke about his name and it’ll be one of the ”original” GI Joes’ names they’ll use.

Personally I think it’s a nice little nod to the past without alienating viewers unfamiliar with the original cartoons (of which there will be a fair few – people forget that this is probably the first GI Joe cartoon a lot of kids have seen.)
