G.I. Joe: Sigma Six and ToyFare Magazine in 2005

Hasbro’s 8-inch scale G.I. Joe: Sigma Six series (Amazon.com search*) never really did succeed. In chatting with some fans the cartoon is pointed at as the larger problem with the line, but regardless of exactly what went wrong I’m sad that I missed out on these action figures when they were new.

And when they were new, way back in the mid-2000s, the toys were getting some coverage in the toy magazines of the day. Here’s a peek at G.I. Joe: Sigma Six in the September, 2005 issue of ToyFare magazine.

  1. Am I seeing things or did Hasbro totally re-use these to make the new Marvel Mashers figures? The angular sculpts look VERY similar. Apart from modifications to satisfy character differences, they look like they’re based on the same base model designs.

  2. Kudos to them, if that’s the case. They’re handsome sculpts and perfect for a kid-friendly line. The fact that they parlayed them into constructable figures is a stroke of genius.

    1. @Jay – I still want a female Sigma Six action figure, and that now has me asking:

      * Are there any female Hero Mashers action figures?
