Garth Ennis Judge Dredd Collection from 2000AD

New e-mail from 2000AD directing all of us to their latest collection of Judge Dredd comics, this time all written by Garth Ennis. Maybe 2000AD has always been publishing collections in the UK, but those of us in the US are getting access to a lot of cool stuff now that these are being released in the US. Though I bet I’ll still go a little collection shopping crazy when I see the 2000AD booth at SDCC next year.

Acknowledged as one of the top comic book writers in the world, Garth Ennis has received critical acclaim for his work on titles such as Preacher, The Boys, and Punisher Max.

Now, his best work on the legendary lawman of British comics, Judge Dredd, has been collected together for the first time in a new book for North American readers. Packed with violent and darkly witty tales, here are the seeds of Ennis’ future success as he takes over his childhood icon from creator John Wagner.

It includes his first work with future Preacher collaborator Steve Dillon – The Emerald Isle. This viciously satirical take on modern perceptions of Ennis’ homeland sees Dredd head across the Atlantic to an Ireland turned into a country-sized theme park. He must tackle a band of terrorists fighting against this cultural vandalism – whose guns fire deadly potatoes!

There’s also Raider – regularly name-checked by Karl Urban as inspiration for his portrayal of the lawman in DREDD 3D – with moody art by industry legend John Burns and the return of Dredd’s first ever arrestee.

There’s also the hilarious Almighty Dredd, drawn by Halo Jones artist Ian Gibson, in which Dredd investigates on a cult that worships him as a god!

Out now in the US and Canada, the Garth Ennis Collection is a great introduction to Ennis’ early work and the world of Dredd!
