Glyos Rig Wing Coming in August
Glyos System (Onell Design) fans, prepare your armies for the upcoming Rig Wing that’s hitting later this month. Designed by Matt Doughty, this new attachment transforms the existing Glyos Rig (first review here, second review here, third review here) by replacing the arms with new wing components that, as you can see in the photo below, can also serve as heavy weapons arms.
The origins of this new part stretch way back to June of 2010 when I visited Matt and had a chance to handle the original Rig master (master and first wing discussion post here). During that evening with Matt we chatted about how just swapping out the arms for wings would drastically change the look of the toy. Little did I realize at the time that Matt would latch onto that small snippet of our evening and create something truly amazing.
Above you can see the Rig Wing in one of its fighter configurations. This clearly shows just how the wings change the look of the toy, and looking at this shot makes me realize that by creating a new center section the look of the toy could be changed once more. Hmmmmm . . .
Keep your eyes on the Glyos Transmission Web Log for more photos of the new Rig Wing and for information on the toy’s release. Matt’s also going to try to give his side of the story of the creation of this part but don’t believe everything he says. Matt is easily the most generous person I have ever met and I’m so truly happy that we hit it off from our first meeting.
Thanks, Matt, for taking one of my random and stupid ideas and turning it into a real toy. If this keeps up then maybe someday I’ll get to add “toy designer” to my list of achievements. But that will only be a lie, since you did all of the work on this. All I did was spend about fifteen minutes of your life rambling on about how cool it would be if there was a wing design for the Rig.
Fantastic idea, regardless of whether or not it was spawned from idle chatter. 😀 Many grats and thanks for causing such a cool variation!
“Thanks, Matt, for taking one of my random and stupid ideas and turning it into a real toy.”
BULL. It was a GREAT idea, and you need to know it! Last time I checked, Matt isn’t all that crazy about stupid ideas, and he’s a smart enough guy to only invest in things he thinks are awesome.
So you shut up, guy!
Unless it’s more ideas about cool Glyos stuff! 😉
looks awesome! great teamwork on this one, guys!
Great job Phil!
Now that makes me want a rig!
I don’t mean to sound conceited, but I had an idea like this a couple months back. Then again, I’m sure many of us did (Heavy weapon Rig, anyway?). I’m just happy to see it happen, one way or another. And since I’m going through some tough times right now, I’m DEFINITELY gonna snag me one of these!
@Dex – The wings just make perfect sense for this. If you go back and look at that post from June, 2010 then you’ll see me chattering on about wings for the toy. I can completely understand how you also had the same idea after playing with the toy.
