The April, 1983 Starlog magazine back cover promises some real excitement for fantasy fans with these Advanced Dungeons & Dragons hardcover books. Just how well was Advanced Dungeons & Dragons performing in 1983 for TSR to afford this level of advertising outside of the game industry? Very well. Very, very well; according to this article Dragon magazine alone had over 100,000 subscribers in 1983.

If only today’s roleplaying game market was as strong as it was in the early eighties . . .
