Hot Wheels, Matchbox, and Fast 111s
December 8, 1982. When I was a kid, between 1978 and 1984, there was a single toyline that pretty much dominated my toy wants: Kenner’s Star Wars action figures. There were brief excursions into other toys — G.I. Joe, for example — but Star Wars was top of the needs for those years.
One other distraction during that time happened late in 1982, when I spent a few months with toy cars, including Hot Wheels. Even today my Hot Wheels collecting is minimal, but the awesome designs and low prices make it tough to not buy a Hot Wheels car every now and then. And, as often happens, buying one leads to more. Those little cars can be addictive!
