“I Save The Orange Ones Till Last.”
Anyone reading comic books in the mid-eighties should remember this cute Reese’s Pieces ad that appeared in many comic books. Taken from a 1985 issue of The Sword of Solomon Kane, what I find most impressive about the ad is that it wasn’t the only candy ad in the comic. The ads that appear in comics these days don’t seem to have quite as broad a reach of subjects as they once did, which makes me suspect that many comic publishers are charging too much for their ad space these days.

There may not be as much diversity in the ads, but at least there aren’t the phony x-ray glasses ads and ads of the get-sand-kicked-in-the-face-then-get-ripped variety…
…although to be fair, when I buy comics digitally or in collections (my preferred method) there are no ads at all!
For me the ads are as much a part of the nostalgia trip as the comics themselves and I’m always disappointed that reprinted collections DON’T include them.
And if there were no X-Ray Specs ads or Sea Monkeys, we’ve have no Darling Pet Munkee! (Slightly NSFW)
