I was a stupid kid . . .

Saturday, June 12, 1982. The day before my birthday. My parents take us out and, for me, it’s an exciting day because I get to pick out a present for my birthday. I wish I could remember the name of the store, but the damn TV had poisoned me that morning with a commercial for the Dagobah Playset and I — like the stupid, stupid child that I was — fell for it.

I was happy, because I had Dagobah! Nevermind that it was a chunk of plastic with some moving parts. It wasn’t even a spaceship!

Need more proof that I was stupid? Here’s the commercial.

My parents should have slapped me when I pointed to that toy at the store.

  1. Sure, it was useless without the action figures – and sure, you COULD have just gone outside and found some random rocks and logs and re-created it completely…but I submit that it was a lot of fun to have Yoda’s house to play in and around! I owned this playset and never once regretted it.
