Irving and Poe in a Single Day
As I mentioned yesterday, Gina and I made our way to the Washington Irving house where we were able to tour the home and grounds. A fantastic view of the river and an unusual and fitting home for the author of Sleepy Hollow. Definitely recommended if you’re ever in the area.
Walking out of the Irving home around noon we started searching for other things to do in the area, and the next thing we knew we were on our way to the Edgar Allan Poe cottage in the Bronx. A fairly quick and easy drive — with a detour for lunch and a stop at a bookstore that proved to be completely abandoned — and we were inside the cottage, the final home of Edgar Allan Poe. The cottage could really use some cash — and better signs — but it was suitably creepy and almost as neat as the Poe house in Philadelphia that Gina and I visited five years ago.
We then jumped the train down to Grand Central Terminal for dinner at the awesome chili bar and a walk around the station. I always do love visiting Grand Central.
