“Join the MASK Team and Discover the Illusion”
Today’s classic comic ad is straight from the inside front cover of issue #11 of the 1985 Transformers comic. I love that Kenner sunk cash into advertising into one of the comics featuring toys from a competitor, but I do wonder whether or not these old comic ads actually generated sales. They must have, right? Otherwise the toy makers wouldn’t have been paying to include full-page ads in the comics . . . wait, did these ads not work and that’s why we don’t see toy ads in comics today?

Only speaking from personal experience, I certainly studied and drooled over the toy ads in comics as a kid.
