June, 1985 Starlog Magazine and Mad Max
A few days ago I posted about a 1985 interview with Mad Max (Amazon.com search*) creator George Miller. Well, 1985 hasn’t quite finished with us as this June, 1985 Starlog issue shows us. Beyond Thunderdome still takes some real heat from hardcore film fans, but if I stop and look back to when I first saw the movie — I’m pretty sure that was the summer of 1986 — I can remember just how much fun I had watching it.
The Tina Turner rock opera set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland may not have been as intense as the first two Mad Max films — and comes nowhere close to today’s Fury Road — but that didn’t stop the me of 14 from loving the hell out of the film. After that much wasteland wreckage is it any surprise just how much Car Wars we played when we were kids?
