Kenner Toy Rebate and Refund Form from 1981
September 16, 1981. The Spokesman-Review newspaper on this day in history offered up an advertisement for Kenner’s Star Wars action figures. Featuring images of Darth Vader, the AT-AT vehicle, and the Dagobah playset, this ad from the Jafco store also includes a rebate offer from Kenner.
Now this isn’t as cool as the 1979 Cash Refund booklet that I posted last year, but it’s still a useful piece of Star Wars toy history since it demonstrates that even at its height the toys needed a financial push to sell more units. This isn’t a bad thing, it’s just how business sometimes works.
