Kenner’s Centurions Toy Commercial from 1986

Kenner sure tried a lot of stuff once Star Wars sales died off in the eighties. M.A.S.K., Super Powers, and Aliens were just some of the toys they tried to use to replace Star Wars, but nothing they released ever came close to the Star Wars sales levels of the late seventies and the early eighties. But they tried and tried and tried . . . and we got some cool memories and neat toys out of the deal.

The Centurions (virtualtoychest.com, Action Figure Archive) had a great gimmick with snap-on accessories. It’s kinda sad that the only Centurions review I’ve ever posted here was for pencil toppers (review here), but maybe everyone will forgive me for posting a review of such an odd collectible instead of actual action figures.

  1. Power Ex-TREME-treme-treme-treme….

I loved these guys when I was growing up and have searched for them on ebay at random times throughout the years. You can usually find some decently priced loose lots, but if you want any of the more robust sets (in great condition), they’ll cost you a pretty penny.

  2. For some reason I actually remember their cartoon being rather entertaining. I’m sure it wouldn’t hold up now, but back then they blew up a lot of stuff and that’s always good. 🙂

  3. @Paul – Just once I wanna be the guy who finds a case of old action figures sitting lost and forgotten in some store or flea market . . .

  4. @JustinD – That makes me want to track down the cartoon and give it a shot. Maybe after we finish watching Max Headroom; man, I cannot understand how that series was ever made. Way more subversive and anti-establishment than I remembered.
